About Muay Thai
Muay Thai or Thai Boxing has a centuries old tradition in Thailand. It is one of the most elaborate and effective martial arts there are.

This martial art has been developed over more than 2000 years and refined more and more. Bangkok is considered to be the spiritual home of Muay Thai.

The supreme guideline in Muay Thai is the mutual respect between the fighters. As tough as the contest for victory is – in what is probably the toughest martial art–as respectful is the mutual contact. The commitment of the World Muay Thai Council and of the Thai Box Community in line with social projects, the prevention of drug use and violence is also evidence of this.

The World Muaythai Council (WMC) is the supreme authoritative body for regulating the sport of Muay Thai worldwide. The WMC has been authorized by the Thai government and unites the international Muay Thai organizations and fighters under one umbrella. The WMC establishes and monitors the compliance with general standards in and between the partner organizations. The WMC is represented with partner organizations in more than 120 countries, which all underlie the same rules and standards.

Coming from a long tradition the sport of Muay Thai has arrived in modern times. Thus, the sport is on the brink of becoming an Olympic discipline as early as 2016. In addition, Muay Thai has rapidly gained in importance as a lifestylesport in the fitness sector in recent years, counting millions of active athletes around the world by now.

This, as well as the combative appeal of this extremely fast and agile sport, explains the immense interest in international Muay Thai TV formats such as “The Contender” with more than 400 million viewers.
